In many homes, laundry routines go something like this: First, clothing piles up in the bathroom hampers. Then they’re taken to the laundry room, where someone (most likely you) separates them into colors, whites, delicates and towels. These piles might sit in baskets or directly on the floor. You step over the piles in order to get your wash going. The detergent bottles may be sticky and dusty from sitting on top of the dryer. As loads come out of the dryer, they get put into laundry baskets and dragged to different rooms (often the master bedroom), where they may sit for an undetermined amount of time while waiting to be folded or hung, and gathering wrinkles in the meantime. Sound familiar?
Imagine instead a routine that allows you to separate your laundry, keeping it all in bins that are off of the floor and out of the way. As clothing comes out of the dryer, it can be folded on a fold-down table or ironed on a fold-down ironing board. Your laundry aids stay nice and clean, because they’re kept in closed laundry room cabinets. You can hang your clean laundry on a rack or keep it folded on the laundry shelves until each household member can come and retrieve their own items. Doesn’t that sound simpler?
